Level 1 · About 2 hours, spread over as long as you like

First Steps

By the end you will have had your first real conversation with an AI assistant — and found it unremarkable, in the best way.

Nothing here requires you to buy anything or install anything complicated. We start with what AI already does in your life without you noticing, then have you ask your first question.

What this level covers

  1. What AI actually is

A plain answer, without the science fiction. What it can do, what it cannot, and why it sometimes sounds more certain than it should.

  2. Where it already shows up

Your bank flagging a strange charge. Your phone finding every photo of your dog. The map choosing a faster road. You have been using it for years.

  3. Your first conversation

Opening an assistant, typing a question, reading the answer. That is the whole thing.

  4. How to talk to it

There is no special language. Ordinary sentences work. “Explain that more simply” works. So does “that is wrong.”

  5. Practice questions

A set of harmless first questions with predictable answers, so you can see how it behaves before anything matters.

  6. On feeling hesitant

Hesitation is sensible, not a failing. What can actually go wrong, what cannot, and where the real risks sit.

Try it yourself

Three short exercises. There is nothing to submit and nobody is marking them.

  • Ask an assistant to explain something you already know well. Judge the answer — you are the expert here.
  • Ask it for a recipe using only what is in your refrigerator right now.
  • Ask the same question twice and notice that the answers differ. This tells you something important about how it works.
