That is too long. You have the year wrong. Say it the way I would say it to my brother. All of those work, and none of them will offend it.
Do this
- Go back to the note from stop 2, or ask for anything new. A short letter, a list, a recipe.
- Without repeating your original question, type only what was wrong. Too long. Half that. Send it and watch.
- Do it twice more. Change the tone, then change one fact. Make it warmer. It is a maple, not an oak.
Watch it done first, if you would rather
Let my human assistant John show you what that looks like. He does the same thing you are about to do, at the same speed, with nothing edited out.
Filming This one is not recorded yet. Everything you need is written out above, and the video will appear here when it is ready.
What just happened
You never restated the question, and it never asked you to. Everything you have said in this conversation is still in front of it, so a three word correction is enough.
This is worth knowing because the alternative is exhausting. People who do not know it retype the whole request every time, get frustrated, and decide the tool is not for them.
The limit worth knowing: this memory lasts as long as the conversation. Start a new chat and it is gone, which is exactly what you saw happen at stop 1. Some assistants also remember things about you between conversations, which is a setting you will look at yourself at stop 10.
If something did not go as expected
- It fixed the thing I mentioned but broke something else.
- Common, and not a sign you are doing it wrong. Say keep the last version but only change this one thing.
- It keeps apologizing at me.
- They are built to be agreeable, sometimes tiresomely so. Ignore it, or say stop apologizing and just do it.
- I liked the second version better than the fourth.
- Say so. Go back to the version before last. It usually can.
The view from here: It holds on to the conversation
